OSU Marine Studies

As part of the Hatfield Marine Science Center, the Marine Studies Initiative Building supports a collaborative, transdisciplinary marine studies program and also serves as a vertical evacuation zone for protection against future tsunamis. In keeping with the surrounding dune landscape, coastal native plants and undulating landforms wrap around the building’s central plaza and rise up with the evacuation ramp. Rain gardens have been integrated with the landscape, capturing and treating site stormwater runoff.
