Halyard Building

Hood River, Oregon

With views of the Columbia River, the Halyard Building landscape alludes to the rugged geologic formations that rise from the edge of the river and flowering meadows that blanket the hillsides during the spring and summer months. Adjacent to the building and along a meandering trail, sliced basalt boulders resemble the stone synclines that are visible from the offices. These boulders are thoughtfully interspersed with native plantings, which are irrigated from a giant cistern that collects rainwater from the building during the winter months, creating a sustainable and harmonious connection between the natural environment and the architecture.
