D-Street village lies at the crossroads of Portland old-style bungalows, hip and trendy restaurants with a little bit of DIY urban flair. The project has interior and exterior courtyards that provide meeting spaces for the tenants and outdoor dining for a local restaurant, the Bollywood Theater. The concept for the outdoor dining area was to create a garden screen adjacent to a busy street that still provided views of the Indian restaurant. Large garage doors open up to the dining area and string lights provide a festive feel during the night-time dining. A custom weathered steel fence straddles large boulders that create a garden buffer between the diners and the adjacent sidewalk. The random steel pickets of the fence turn the corner to become a bike-rack corral and a vertical trellis.
