Kurt Lango · ASLA, LEED AP, Principal
Kurt is a founding Principal of Lango Hansen Landscape Architects, and a LEED accredited professional. With over twenty-five years of experience in public facilitation, planning and landscape architectural design, Kurt strongly believes in the power of landscapes to strengthen the identity of place and sense of community. Having worked extensively with public-private partnerships and multidisciplinary teams, he brings outstanding design leadership skills to complex projects. Kurt has served on numerous art juries, lectured widely and acted as a visiting professor at Portland State University and the University of Oregon.
Jane Hansen · ASLA, Principal
As Principal in the firm, Jane leads landscape architectural design efforts to plan and create thoughtful, ecologically sensitive spaces that enrich the public realm. In her firm’s work, she aspires to create a kind of resonance in the landscape where, through design and craft, the smallest details build upon the overall concepts. With over twenty years of experience in the analysis, planning, design and construction management of a wide range of projects, Jane works closely with teams and clients to develop successful and sustainable designs. Jane is committed to design excellence in both her firm’s work and in the community. She has previously served on the Portland Design Commission, and is an active supporter of the University of Oregon and Portland State University’s design programs.
Andrew Sheie · LEED AP, Senior Associate
As a landscape architect with a background in art and geography and experience as a woodworker and cabinetmaker, Andy applies a wide range of knowledge and skills in the design of the exterior environment. His work on projects have ranged from conceptual level design for endeavors such as the Steel Bridge Skate Park, to detailed designs for water features at PCC Willow Creek and Sherwood’s Cannery Square Plaza. Andy has been with Lango Hansen since 2006, and has worked in Portland since graduating in 2002 with a Masters in Landscape Architecture from the University of Manitoba.
Hadiza joined Lango Hansen after working in estate residential and small scale commercial work in Washington D.C. and Dallas. Growing up in multiple cities around the world, Hadiza developed a strong interest in landscape architecture in urban spaces and recognizing the importance of sustainably blending the new with the old. She graduated from West Virginia University and enjoyed the opportunity to experience the landscape in its rugged form, throughout the Appalachian region. After her cross country relocation to Oregon, Hadiza looks forward to learning about native horticulture of the Pacific Northwest and being a part of designing unique spaces in the Portland area. When she’s out of the office, Hadiza enjoys traveling, building furniture and touring art galleries.
Brian Martin · Associate
Brian is a native Portlander with a lifelong love for plants. After receiving his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Idaho in 2004, Brian returned to Portland with a desire to create visually pleasing and functionally successful spaces. Brian takes pride in the diverse range of projects he has been involved with, ranging from habitat restoration to urban design and transportation. When not designing landscapes in the office, Brian enjoys working in his own garden with the enthusiastic help of his two children.
Kyle Trulen · LEED AP BD+C, Associate
Kyle has found a home in Portland after working in Boston, Los Angeles, and Madison. He has earned landscape architecture degrees from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and Ball State University. His project experience spans a variety of scales and extends throughout the United States as well as Europe, Asia, and Africa. The ecological interactions of people and the natural environment fascinate him and spur him on to enhance these interactions through creative design and planning. Kyle brings a diligent professionalism to his projects coupled with an ever-present smile that reflects an enthusiasm for his work.
Originally from Pennsylvania, Kealin has spent the last decade living throughout the Pacific Northwest. Attracted to landscape architecture because of the fusion of the arts and mathematics, Kealin graduated with a master’s degree from the University of Idaho, Urban Design Center. Kealin is enthusiastic about landscape architecture because she believes it encourages a balanced, healthy lifestyle by providing environmental justice throughout communities. When not designing, Kealin enjoys a meditative swim and cooking a colorful meal.
Laury joined Lango Hansen in 2013 as our bookkeeper. After a 10 year distraction in Los Angeles working in a recording studio, and in the film & video industry, she found her way to Portland. The beauty and livability of the city has kept her here ever since keeping the books for various architecture and creative firms. She has had a love of plants and gardening since her youth growing up in the Pine forests of an East Texas farm. Laury spends her free time renovating her fixer-upper, volunteering at the urban farm in her neighborhood, and taking long walks with her near constant canine companion, Lucy.
Growing up on the banks of the many Minnesota lakes and the Mississippi River, Brooks discovered his passion for how landscape architecture can shape a city and make it a more vibrant, active, and healthy place. After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2011, Brooks moved to Southern California to find his footing in the profession and work on a diverse range of projects, including education, healthcare, and estate-residential. He brings to Lango Hansen a desire to help create healthy outdoor spaces for the people and places that need them most.
Kurt Martig is a registered landscape architect from Ohio and graduated from The Ohio State University in 2007. After 9 years of working in New York City he moved to Portland to join Lango Hansen in 2017. He has worked locally and internationally on projects varying in size and scales from terraces in New York City, to a bike and pedestrian corridor in Philadelphia, to a streetscape improvement project in Mexico. Having grown up in a rural farming community, Kurt brings a unique perspective to the work of the built environment. In his free time Kurt enjoys skiing, curing meat, and OSU football.
